BEST AND WORST FILMS OF 2022
Now that the Awards season is over – it’s time for the only “End of Year” list that really matters – the one that is put out by the BankofMarquis. So now, let’s get to the 10 Best AND The 10 Worst Films (that the BankofMarquis has viewed) in 2022.
To start with, there are a few films that might make the list, but I haven’t seen them yet. Films like RRR, MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON and THE WOMAN KING might end up here later on, but…
THE WORST
10). FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE – This franchise sequel was (smartly) reduced from 5 films to 3.
9). JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION – They pretty much squeezed out all of the amber they are going to for this franchise (don’t worry, they’ll try to squeeze more out in a few years)
8). SPIDERHEAD - A straight to Netflix thriller by the Director of TOP GUN:MAVERICK and starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller and Journee Smoulett should be good, right? It isn’t.
7). FATHER STU - An overly earnest “feel good” flick starring Mark Wahlberg and “Mr Feelgood” himself, Mel Gibson.
6). MOONFALL – A cheesy disaster flick that just isn’t cheesy enough to be any good
5). DON’T WORRY DARLING – An interesting premise with 2 interesting actors (Chris Pine and Florence Pugh) is undermined by bad direction (Olivia Wilde) and acting (Harry Styles).
4). KIMI – Another straight to Netflix action movie that should have gone straight to the trash can.
3). STRANGE WORLD – A Disney Animated movie that is “too adult” for kids and “too kids” for adults
2). MORBIUS – Jared Leto method acting a comic book film is exactly the trainwreck you think it would be
1). FIRESTARTER – A film that makes one yearn for the cheesy ‘80’s version
And now, onto the BEST of 2022
10). THE BLACK PHONE - A tense horror/thriller that worked well without relying on being too filled with gore.
9). THE OUTFIT – You probably have not seen this under-the-radar crime/thriller. Do yourself a favor, check it out.
8). THE PALE BLUE EYE – Christian Bale as a 19th Century sleuth who solves a murder mystery with Edgar Allen Poe. It is as intriguing as the premise makes it seem.
7). SPIRITED – Will Ferrell with his 2nd Holiday Classic
6). THE MENU – A dark, satiric, horror black-comedy with a dry, dry, dry sardonic performance by the great Ralph Fiennes. Oh…and Anya Taylor-Joy and Hong Chau are terrific in this as well.
5). THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN – It was so feucking good that I was tempted to chop off a few fingers.
4). BULLET TRAIN – Just about the most fun I had in a movie theater this year. A load of fun…a load of violence…and a load of action. Like riding a roller coaster. Just hang on and enjoy the ride.
3). NOPE – Jordan Peele has done it again.
2). ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT – 2 hours of tenseness. I couldn’t keep my eyes off the screen.
1). EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE – The most “bonkers” film in quite awhile. But filled with great heart. Loved every minute of it.
And you can take these lists to the Bank(ofMarquis)
