Oscars Picks & Predictions: BEST ACTRESS

Of all the categories in this year's Oscars, Best Actress is the one that from top to bottom, all performances are close to each other. Here is how I would rank them: 5). Yalitza Aparicio - ROMA: I am so glad that she was nominated for what was, in essence, a silent role. She holds the screen well and is deserving of her nomination. 4). Olivia Colman - THE FAVOURITE: An interesting, quirky performance that (IMHO) is a Supporting role and only the 2nd best Supporting role in this film. 3). Lady Gaga - A STAR IS BORN: This film would not work without the solid, earnest, heart-wrenching work of Gaga in her screen debut. An honest performance. I have been going back and forth on the last 2, but one of these continues to grow and the other is standing still... 2). Glenn Close - THE WIFE: A strong performance that should, finally, put Close over the top for an Oscar and she WILL WIN the Oscar this year. 1). Melissa McCarthy - CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME: Her performance as real-life author Lee Israel is strong, pathetic and gut-wrenching. A wonderful dramatic performance by a comedic performer and this is the performance that I think SHOULD WIN the Oscar this year. And you can take this to the Bank(ofMarquis)
